Julie
Original oil painting canvas panel, 16x20"
Premium oil pigments on on professional grade canvas panel
Created using collaged photographic reference material gathered in my studio using a friend and fellow painter as the model. Julie is a reappearing subject in my work. She has a wonderful sense of space and a fantastic wardrobe that she kindly lugs to the studio to help build interesting shapes and reference materials for paintings.
There's something that feels more genuine and collaborative about working with models that bring their own voice to the piece. I think I can take a step back, letting them engage more in self-direction, which allows me to focus on moving the paint around. I also feel more strongly inspired in a way which bypasses my intellect and causes my hands to start moving without needing to think about "what to do"
